Launched in late 1999, Fragile, by Jean Paul Gaultier, takes it's name from both the delicate nature of the flower it is built around, Gaultier's favorite flower the tuberose, and from the paradoxical nature of modern women who Gaultier perceives as strong and fragile at the same time. Fragile is a very couture scent blending elegance and modernity...a disconcerting and exuberant fragrance with a highly original combination of notes. |
Fragile is categorized as a floral fragrance. The intensely fresh top note is luminous with tuberose, intensified by a hint of raspberry leaves and the stimulation of sweet orange.
The heart is light and modern, with the subtle voluptuousness of pimento berries, capsicum seeds and pink pepper. The base reverberates with cedar wood, violet wood and a tinge of musk for an unforgettable, lingering drydown.
The bottle and packaging are the creation of Jean Paul Gaultier himself, and won a
2000 FiFi International Fragrance Award for Technological Breakthrough of the Year.
The outer packaging - a rough cardboard crate with the word "Fragile" stamped all over it - opens to reveal an interior lined with gold leaves.
The bottle itself is a bubble on a golden base. Inside is a woman in a black sheath dress. When the bottle is turned upside down, a shower of golden glitter swirls around the figure. It's a snow dome reinterpreted, and pure Gaultier.
Gaultier's new fragrance bottle pays tribute to Schiaperelli's famous bottle 'Shocking' designed for Mae West in 1937. THAT bottle recently sold for $1300.00 at the Phillip's Perfume Presentations auction in Zurich. Fragile is sure to become a collector's item too, so don't throw that bottle away!
