Rouge Hermès
In the beginning there was Hermès Red, a shade developed for leather in 1934 exclusively for Hermès by Georges Combes, a tanner and friend of Emile Hermès. The sophisticated color was a bold departure from the dark shades commonly used in leather goods of the day. Over the years, this sensual shade of red has been used for many Hermès products, including leather, scarves, diaries, housewares, gloves, shoes and ready-to-wear, and has become associated with the prestigious reputation of Hermès. So, it's not all that surprising that the company would take Hermès Red's qualities of sensuality, femininity and boldness, and interpret them into a fragrance.
Launched in 2000, Rouge Hermès is a smoldering chypre fragrance based on floral and amber accords. Created for Hermes by Givaudan, Rouge Hermès is an ultra-feminine, modern, and lively variation of an earlier fragrance, Parfum d'Hermes.
